The Alamo (Battle site and shrine)

The Alamo at the Alamo Plaza was the site of the 1836 Battle of the Alamo during the Texas Revolution. Notable defenders who died there include William B. Travis, James Bowie, and Davy Crockett, and the phrase "Remember the Alamo" became a rallying cry for Texas forces. The mission chapel and grounds are preserved as a museum and shrine and have long been the focus of local legends and stories about the battle and its participants.
