Kasa de la Muntanya

Kasa de la Muntanya is a historically significant squatted former police barracks in Barcelona, built in 1909 by industrialist Eusebi Güell. After being abandoned in 1983, it was occupied in 1989 and became a vibrant self-managed social center, emblematic of the squatter movement in the city. The center hosts various cultural events and has been a hub for anarchist and anti-capitalist activities. The Güell family has engaged in a lengthy legal battle to reclaim the property, which culminated in a 2019 city council plan to purchase it for social housing, highlighting the ongoing dialogue between community needs and urban development.
