Sarum (Newport, Maryland)

Sarum is a historic house located in Newport, Charles County, Maryland, dating back to 1717. Originally built by Joseph Pile, it features a box-framed hall and parlor design. The house has undergone several modifications, including a shed addition in 1736 and brick extensions in the 1800s, resulting in its current dimensions. It was owned by the Pile family for over a century and is recognized as one of Maryland's finest small Colonial dwellings. Sarum was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, making it a significant site for tourists and researchers interested in early American architecture and history.
