Paul Kane House

The Paul Kane House, located in Toronto, Ontario, is a significant heritage structure associated with the early Canadian artist Paul Kane, who built the original cottage in 1853. After a fire in 1855, the cottage was expanded and later clad in brick by Kane's family, who owned it until 1903. The house has served various purposes over the years, including being part of a church for the deaf. In the 1970s, a grassroots movement saved the house from demolition, leading to its acquisition by the city in 1978 and designation as a heritage site. Today, it is integrated into a housing cooperative and is adjacent to a small parkette, offering visitors a glimpse into Toronto's artistic and architectural history.
