Hammond House (Newton, Massachusetts)

The Hammond House, located at 9 Old Orchard Road in Chestnut Hill, Newton, is believed to be the oldest house in the area, with construction dating back to between 1645 and 1730. This historic First Period house showcases a unique architectural evolution from a single cell to a five-bay structure, a rarity for its time. Originally built by Hon. Ebenezer Stone, the house has undergone several expansions and renovations over the centuries. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, and recent remodeling in the early 2020s introduced a contemporary aesthetic, altering much of its historic interior.
