Bennett Cockayne House

The Bennett Cockayne House, located in Glen Dale, West Virginia, is a historic home built around 1850 in the vernacular I-house style. This two-story wooden structure, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002, served as the first schoolhouse in Glen Dale and was pivotal in the region's wool production during the 19th century. The property includes a supply shed and water pump from the early 1900s. The house is filled with over 1,500 family relics, including photographs, furniture, and a square grand piano from 1881. After being donated to the city in 2001, efforts to preserve the house have made it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in local history and agriculture.
