Jack Kerouac Alley (City Lights–Vesuvio corridor)

Jack Kerouac Alley is a short pedestrian alley between Columbus Avenue and Grant Avenue adjacent to City Lights Bookstore and Vesuvio Cafe in North Beach. The alley is named for Beat Generation author Jack Kerouac and features mosaics, quotations, and public-art elements celebrating the city's literary history. Photographs of the alley and its inscriptions are commonly shared on social media and repurposed in posts and memes referencing San Francisco's Beat-era cultural identity. The alley is a documented small public space and tourist stop in the North Beach neighborhood.
