Riviera demolition (implosion of an iconic Strip resort, 2016)

The Riviera Hotel and Casino, which originally opened in April 1955 as one of the Strip's early high-profile resorts, closed on May 4, 2015. The remaining structures on the Riviera site were imploded on May 16, 2016 as part of a demolition and redevelopment plan. The demolition of the Riviera marked the end of a long-running property that had been a visible part of the Strip skyline for six decades.
