Divine Lorraine Hotel (formerly Lorraine Apartments)

Built in 1894 and designed by architect Willis G. Hale, the Lorraine Apartments later became the Divine Lorraine Hotel when purchased by religious leader Father Divine in 1948. Under Father Divine the building operated as a racially integrated hotel and became a noted social landmark in North Broad Street's history. The structure is a prominent example of late-19th-century Philadelphia residential architecture and has been the subject of later preservation and redevelopment efforts.
