USS Pampanito (WWII submarine museum)

USS Pampanito is a Balao-class World War II submarine built in 1943 that is preserved as a museum ship at Pier 45 in San Francisco. Decommissioned after the war, the vessel was restored and opened to the public to interpret wartime submarine service and mid-20th-century naval engineering. The submarine is maintained in operational condition for dockside tours and is managed by a nonprofit volunteer organization in partnership with the National Park Service. It is a documented example of preserved military-marine architecture and engineering on San Francisco's waterfront.
