Immaculate Conception Church (Amenia, New York)

The Immaculate Conception Church, established in 1866, is a historic Roman Catholic parish located in Amenia, New York, under the Archdiocese of New York. It has roots dating back to the mid-19th century when early settlers, many working in local iron ore beds, sought spiritual guidance. The church has undergone several transformations, including the construction of a new building after the original was struck by lightning in 1886. The parish also played a significant role in the establishment of nearby St. Anthony's Church in Pine Plains, which became a mission of Immaculate Conception before gaining parish status in 1958. In 2015, the two parishes merged, yet services continue at both locations, making it a notable site for visitors interested in local history and architecture.
