Barrett House (New Ipswich, New Hampshire)

The Barrett House, also known as Forest Hall, is a historic Federal style mansion built around 1800 in New Ipswich, New Hampshire. Once a wedding gift for Charles Barrett, it features elegantly furnished interiors and reception rooms designed for entertaining. The house is part of the New Ipswich Center Village Historic District and is now a nonprofit museum operated by Historic New England, open to the public several days a year for a small admission fee. Visitors can explore its rich history, including its decline after the railroad bypassed the town and its use as a summer residence by the Barrett family. The property also boasts a beautiful landscape with an allée and a summerhouse. Additionally, it served as a filming location for the 1979 film adaptation of Henry James's novel, The Europeans.
