Shumaker-Lewis House

The Shumaker-Lewis House, also known as the Virgil A. Lewis House, was a historic Victorian-era home in Mason, West Virginia, built around 1885. It featured a distinctive two-tier Eastlake movement style porch and served as the residence of Virgil A. Lewis, the first State Historian and Archivist of West Virginia from 1905 to 1912. The house was a significant cultural site, housing the Mason City Historical Society, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Although it was demolished in 2014, the site is now home to Virgil A. Lewis Park, making it a point of interest for visitors and researchers alike.
