White Rock Lake - large municipal reservoir inside city limits

White Rock Lake is a reservoir on White Rock Creek created in 1911 to supply Dallas with municipal water and now encompasses about 1,015 acres of water and parkland within the city. The lake and its dam form an engineered hydrologic feature that produces a substantial shoreline and wetland habitat uncommon for many central-city areas. Its presence influences local microclimates, recreation patterns, and urban development around the eastern part of Dallas.
