Astros renamed when the Astrodome opened

The Houston Colt .45s were renamed the Houston Astros in 1965 to coincide with the move into the newly opened Astrodome and the city's association with the space industry. The Astrodome's opening marked the franchise's transition into a domed, multipurpose stadium. The name change and stadium debut occurred the same year the Astrodome opened to the public.
