Alaskan Way Viaduct (SR 99 elevated highway)

The Alaskan Way Viaduct was an elevated double-deck section of State Route 99 running along Seattle's downtown waterfront that opened in the mid-20th century. Damage concerns and a replacement plan led to construction of the SR 99 tunnel, and the viaduct was removed after the tunnel opened in 2019. Its removal restored waterfront visibility and allowed redevelopment of the former viaduct corridor.
