IRT City Hall Station (closed 1945)

IRT City Hall Station opened in 1904 beneath City Hall Park as the original southern terminal of New York's first subway line but was closed to regular passenger service in 1945 because its curved platform could not accommodate longer modern trains. The vaulted, tile-decorated station remains intact underground and is occasionally opened for guided tours by the New York Transit Museum. It is otherwise not in regular use and is only accessible during special events or museum tours.
