Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire at the Asch Building

On March 25, 1911, a fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory on the top floors of the Asch Building killed 146 garment workers, many of whom died from the fire or from jumping from the building. The factory occupied the 8th, 9th, and 10th floors of the building. The disaster spurred major reforms in factory safety, fire codes, and labor laws in New York and nationally.
