Glencartholm

Glencartholm is a notable location in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, situated along the scenic River Esk. It is renowned for the Glencartholm Volcanic Beds, which are home to a significant Palaeozoic fossil fish site of international importance, first discovered in 1879. Although many fossils were removed in the 1930s, further excavations in the 1990s uncovered over 200 specimens, including a potential new species. Additionally, the area features the historic Glencartholm Farmhouse, a listed building that commemorates the defeat of Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo, making it a point of interest for both tourists and researchers alike.
