KQED - early West Coast public television station

KQED-TV began broadcasting on April 5, 1954, and was among the first public television stations on the U.S. West Coast, established to provide educational and public-interest programming to the Bay Area. Over subsequent decades KQED expanded into radio, digital journalism, and regional public media production. The broadcaster has maintained studios and offices in San Francisco while serving the wider Northern California region.
