Devonshire Arms Hotel, Fitzroy

The Devonshire Arms Hotel, located at 38 Fitzroy Street in Fitzroy, Victoria, is a historic building that dates back to 1843, making it the oldest surviving structure in Fitzroy and Melbourne's oldest known hotel. Originally operated by local entrepreneur Francis Clark, the hotel reflects the area's early English influence, particularly from the south-west of England. After closing in 1920 due to licensing regulations, the building has since been repurposed and is now part of St Vincent's Hospital, serving as the Department of Addiction Medicine. The site is recognized for its historical significance and is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.
