Central Powerhouse

The Central Powerhouse, also known as the Town of Moriah Water Department Building, was a historic power station located in Witherbee, Essex County, New York. Constructed in 1902, this impressive brick structure featured a steeply pitched gable roof and included a main block with a two-stage cast stone addition built in 1904-1905. The building served as a transformer house and coal ash hopper. It was deeded to the Town of Moriah in 1962 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995, although it was unfortunately demolished in 2001. This site reflects the industrial heritage of the region and its significance in the development of local infrastructure.
