U.S. Department of State (oversees diplomatic missions)

The U.S. Department of State is headquartered in the Harry S. Truman Building in Washington, D.C. and directs American diplomatic missions worldwide, including embassies and consulates. The department formulates foreign policy, coordinates diplomatic representation, and manages the Foreign Service from this headquarters; its Bureau of Consular Affairs also oversees passport services for U.S. citizens. The State Department issues official guidance and sends personnel to represent U.S. interests abroad.
