Green Pryor Rice House

The Green Pryor Rice House, also known as Gilchrist Place, is a historic residence located in Somerville, Alabama, built in the early 1830s by Matthew Cyrus Houston. This Tidewater cottage features unique Flemish bond brick construction and an unusual corbelled brick cornice. Acquired by Judge Green Pryor Rice in 1837, the house has historical significance as the birthplace of two grandsons who became prominent political figures: Chief Justice Samuel D. Weakley and Governor Malcolm Rice Patterson. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986, making it a notable site for tourists and researchers interested in Alabama's architectural and political history.
