Frederick Douglass's Cedar Hill residence (Frederick Douglass National Historic Site)

Frederick Douglass purchased and lived at Cedar Hill from 1877 until his death in 1895; he used the house as his home and a site for editing and publishing his work. The house on Cedar Hill is preserved as the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site and is administered by the National Park Service. The site interprets Douglass's life, abolitionist work, and his role in Reconstruction-era politics.
