Pillot Building

The Pillot Building, situated at 1006 Congress Avenue in Downtown Houston, Texas, is a historic site that was originally constructed between 1857 and 1869 by Eugene Pillot. Known for its distinctive cast iron front, the building housed various tenants over the years, including a dry goods merchant and professional offices. Although it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, the original structure suffered significant damage in the 1980s and ultimately collapsed during reconstruction in 1988. A replica was completed in 1990, incorporating some original elements, but was removed from the National Register in 1994. This site offers a glimpse into Houston's architectural history and the resilience of its heritage.
