Marks (manor house)

Marks, also known as Mark's Hall, was a historic manor house located in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, near Marks Gate. Built in the 14th century by the de Merk family, it witnessed a rich history of ownership, including notable figures like Francis Bacon and Sir George Hervey. The manor was a significant site for local burials and marriages, reflecting the area's heritage. Although the house was demolished in 1808, the site remains of interest, with archives preserved at the National Archives. Visitors can explore the surrounding area, which includes remnants of the estate and the nearby Drake's Mill, a notable windmill that stood until 1920.
