Paula Modersohn-Becker

Paula Modersohn-Becker was a pioneering German Expressionist painter, known for her innovative self-portraits, including nudes, and for being the first woman to have a museum dedicated solely to her work. Born in 1876 in Dresden, she grew up in a cultured family and began painting at a young age. After studying in Berlin and joining the artistic community in Worpswede, she moved to Paris, where she further developed her style. Despite her short life, ending at 31 due to complications from childbirth, she produced over 700 paintings and 1000 drawings, making significant contributions to early expressionism. Her legacy is celebrated in the Paula Modersohn-Becker Museum, which showcases her groundbreaking work.
