Assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan

On March 30, 1981, John Hinckley Jr. shot President Ronald Reagan and three others outside the Washington Hilton as the president left a speaking engagement. Press secretary James Brady was seriously wounded, and Secret Service agent Tim McCarthy and police officer Thomas Delahanty were also shot. Reagan was wounded by a bullet that ricocheted and recovered after emergency surgery, returning to public duties within weeks.
