Doctor's Tower

The Doctor's Tower, located in Belgrade, Serbia, is a historic monument built in 1824 by Dr. Vito Romita, one of the first doctors in the region. Originally serving as a residence and later as the first psychiatric hospital in Serbia and the Balkans, it played a crucial role in the development of healthcare in the area. The tower features a unique architectural style, combining elements of romantic architecture with oriental influences. Declared a cultural monument in 1979, it stands as a testament to the social progress of the Principality of Serbia. Although it has faced deterioration since the 1990s, plans are underway to repurpose the building for children undergoing cancer therapies, highlighting its ongoing significance in the community.
