Austin H. and Frankie A. Dwight Summer House

The Austin H. and Frankie A. Dwight Summer House, located on Gun Lake in Shelbyville, Michigan, is a historic site recognized for its architectural significance and rich history. Built between 1901 and 1902 by paper manufacturer Austin H. Dwight and his wife Frankie, the Colonial Revival structure features unique design elements such as a gambrel roof, cobblestone cladding, and advanced engineering techniques. After serving as a private summer home for over two decades, it was transformed into the Bay Pointe Restaurant in 1983. The building was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1982 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, but was ultimately demolished in 2004. Today, visitors can explore the legacy of this historic site and its transformation over the years.
