Atbara House

Atbara House, located in the Singapore Botanic Gardens, is an iconic historic building built in 1898. Often mistakenly referred to as the first Black and White House in Singapore, it was designed by architect Regent Alfred John Bidwell and named after the Atbarah River in Sudan. The house has a rich history, having served various purposes including an embassy for the French government. After being acquired by the Singapore government in 1990, it underwent restoration and became part of the Gallop Extension of the Botanic Gardens, opening to the public in 2021. Today, it houses the Forest Discovery Centre, making it a fascinating stop for tourists and researchers interested in Singapore's architectural heritage.
