Lawrence Model Lodging Houses

The Lawrence Model Lodging Houses, located in the South End of Boston, are historic apartment buildings constructed in 1874. Designed by architects Charles K. Kirby and William F. Goodwin, these 4+1⁄2-story brick structures feature traditional Second Empire mansard roofs, with one building showcasing a unique brick-faced attic. Funded by industrialist Abbott Lawrence to provide affordable housing for the poor, these houses reflect the social consciousness of their time. They were added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 22, 1983, making them a notable site for both tourists and researchers interested in Boston's architectural and social history.
