Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum building

Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and completed in 1959, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum's cylindrical building on Fifth Avenue features a continuous spiral ramp gallery that guides visitors past its modern and contemporary art collection. The building's unconventional form and interior ramp were controversial at the time but are now widely cited as an iconic example of 20th-century museum architecture. The museum opened to the public on October 21, 1959.
