Embarcadero Center complex

Embarcadero Center is a multi-building commercial complex on the eastern edge of downtown that was developed in the late 1960s and 1970s and is noted for its interconnected office towers, retail spaces, and elevated pedestrian plazas. The complex, developed by John Portman & Associates, is recognized for its inward-facing urban design with skybridges and sunken plazas that create an internalized downtown environment. It remains a major business and retail hub adjacent to the Embarcadero roadway and Ferry Building.
