Spirit of Detroit statue

The Spirit of Detroit is a large bronze statue by sculptor Marshall Fredericks installed on the plaza of the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center. The statue was dedicated in 1958 and has become a widely recognized symbol of the city. Local fans have frequently draped sports jerseys and other celebratory garments on the statue during major playoff runs and civic celebrations.
