Gamla bankhuset

Gamla bankhuset is a historic two-storey stone building in Umeå, Sweden, built in 1877 in the Neo-Renaissance style. Known for its distinctive rounded corners and nicknamed 'Smörasken' (the 'Butter dish'), this yellow building originally served as the first bank for Westerbottens enskilda bank. After the great fire of 1888, the bank relocated to a more central location, and the building has since been repurposed for various uses, including as an apartment building and a temporary storehouse for the Västerbottens museum. Now a listed building since 1980, it is owned by Umeå Energi and underwent significant restorations in 1992, making it a noteworthy site for tourists and researchers interested in Umeå's architectural and economic history.
