Phoenix Lights (March 13, 1997)

On the evening of March 13, 1997, thousands of witnesses across central Arizona reported seeing an extended formation of lights and/or a V-shaped craft over Phoenix and surrounding communities. The widely publicized sightings were reported by residents, pilots, and local news stations, making it one of Arizona's most famous unexplained aerial incidents. The Air National Guard later stated that flares dropped during a training exercise accounted for some sightings, but eyewitness accounts and subsequent investigations have left aspects of the event debated.
