Abiel Smith School (Black Heritage Trail site)

The Abiel Smith School at 46 Joy Street was the first public school for African American children in Boston and is part of the Museum of African American History. It sits adjacent to the African Meeting House on Beacon Hill and is included on the Black Heritage Trail, which documents sites associated with the city's free Black community and Underground Railroad–era activity. The building now houses exhibits related to African American history in Boston.
