1962 Alcatraz escape fate remains disputed

On June 11, 1962, inmates Frank Morris and brothers John and Clarence Anglin escaped from the federal penitentiary on Alcatraz Island by crawling through cell walls and launching an improvised raft. No bodies were ever recovered; the FBI concluded in its 1979 investigation that the escapees likely drowned, but relatives and some researchers have presented claims and alleged sightings that keep survival theories alive.
