Jenkins Building

The Jenkins Building, located at 101 W. Mackenzie Street in White City, Kansas, is a historic commercial structure built around 1885-86. Designed in the Italianate style, it features a limestone facade, a plate glass storefront, and distinctive segmental arched windows. Originally established as a general store by William Schilling and Son, it became a key business in the area when the Jenkins brothers took over in 1890. The store thrived alongside the growth of White City, benefiting from rail service that brought new residents and trade. The Jenkins Brothers utilized innovative advertising methods and operated until 1939, after which the building changed ownership. It was recognized for its historical significance and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004, making it a notable site for tourists and researchers interested in local history and architecture.
