Pleasant Grove (Salem, Virginia)

Pleasant Grove, also known as the Joseph Deyerle House, is a historic Greek Revival-style home built in 1853 near Salem, Virginia. This two-story brick dwelling features a striking Ionic portico with fluted columns and an original sunroom. The property includes several outbuildings such as a kitchen, spring house, smokehouse, and servant's house, showcasing the lifestyle of the era. Notably, much of the intricate woodwork was crafted by Gustave A. Sedon, a skilled carpenter who collaborated with the Deyerle family. The house's architectural details, including a cast iron balcony, reflect the craftsmanship of the time. Pleasant Grove was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in Virginia's architectural heritage.
