Mikael Agricola Church

Mikael Agricola Church, located in the Punavuori district of Helsinki, is a striking Lutheran church designed by architect Lars Sonck and completed in 1935. Named after the influential bishop Mikael Agricola, the church features a distinctive red brick facade and a towering spire that reaches 97 meters, with a retractable spike that was lowered during wartime to avoid detection by enemy aircraft. With a seating capacity of 850 in the main hall and additional space for 200 in the crypt, the church serves as a significant venue for both worship and community events, making it an interesting site for tourists and researchers alike.
