Dale Furnace and Forge Historic District

The Dale Furnace and Forge Historic District, located in Washington Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, is a fascinating historic site known as an 'iron plantation.' It features six significant buildings, including an ironmaster's mansion dating back to 1791, and various barns and worker's houses from the 19th century. Visitors can explore the archaeological remnants of a once-thriving iron production facility, including a stone furnace stack and forge foundations. The district, which operated until 1868, offers a glimpse into the region's industrial past and has been preserved as a national historic site since 1991, currently owned by the Schall-Dibbern-Snow family.
