The Spirit of Detroit (Coleman A. Young Municipal Center)

The Spirit of Detroit is a large bronze statue created by sculptor Marshall Fredericks and installed on the exterior plaza of the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center in 1958. The statue has become an iconic civic symbol of Detroit and is commonly featured in city ceremonies and celebrations; it is often dressed in team jerseys after major sports victories. It faces Woodward Avenue and the municipal building's entrance.
