Ghirardelli Square

Ghirardelli Square occupies the former Ghirardelli Chocolate Company complex at the northern waterfront and has housed shops, restaurants, and the Ghirardelli chocolate store since its adaptive-reuse redevelopment in the 1960s. The brick and iron structures date to the late 19th and early 20th centuries when the site was used for chocolate manufacturing. The plaza and buildings are a well-known example of early historic-preservation and retail redevelopment in San Francisco.
