Dutch Flats / Ryan Aircraft workshop (site of Spirit of St. Louis construction)

Ryan Airlines' factory at Dutch Flats is where the Spirit of St. Louis was built for Charles Lindbergh in 1927; Lindbergh conducted test flights from Dutch Flats before his transatlantic flight. Dutch Flats functioned as a small airfield and manufacturing site in the 1920s and ceased to exist as an independent airport as aviation facilities in the area consolidated. The historic workshop site is in the vicinity of the present San Diego International Airport property, and the original Dutch Flats airfield has been absorbed by later airport development.
