Palacio de San Carlos, Bogotá

The Palacio de San Carlos is a stunning 16th-century Neoclassical mansion located in Bogotá, Colombia, serving as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1993. Originally built by Archdeacon Francisco Porras Mejia in 1585, it has a rich history, including its use as a Jesuit seminary and the official residence of Colombian presidents. Notably, it was the site of an assassination attempt on Simon Bolivar in 1828, an event commemorated by a plaque. The architecture features a central courtyard with Tuscan columns and elegant state rooms adorned with 18th-century furnishings, including a bedroom once used by Bolivar. The palace is a National Monument and a popular venue for diplomatic events, showcasing Colombia's historical and cultural heritage.
