Mar's Wark

Mar's Wark is a historic ruin located in Stirling, Scotland, built between 1570 and 1572 by John Erskine, the Earl of Mar. Intended as the primary residence for the Erskine family, it features a striking façade with two polygonal towers and intricate stone carvings that reflect royal architectural styles. The building, which overlooks the Holy Rude Church and the route to Stirling Castle, is now a scheduled monument protected by the Scottish Government. Visitors can explore its first floor and basement vaults, which may have been designed for shops. The site has a rich history, having hosted notable figures such as Anne of Denmark and served various purposes throughout the centuries, including military use during civil unrest.
