Japanese Tea Garden quarry overlooks

San Antonio’s Japanese Tea Garden was carved from a former limestone quarry in 1917–1918 and retains steep stonework that forms intimate viewing niches. Pathways, a stone bridge, and the grotto create sheltered vantage points where visitors can look down over the large koi pond and waterfall. These small terraces and bridges are less crowded than the main plaza and are often used for quiet observation and photography.
